What is a retainer?

A retainer is a custom appliance that holds your teeth in their new position after braces or aligners — because teeth naturally try to drift back, a retainer is what makes your straight smile last. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, our orthodontists provide both removable and fixed (bonded) retainers, and can make a new one if you've lost or broken an old retainer and your teeth are starting to shift. Pricing is transparent, and you'll get an exact quote at your consultation.

What to expect

We take a quick digital scan or impression of your straightened teeth and make a retainer that fits them exactly. A removable retainer is a clear or wire-and-plate appliance you take in and out; a fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded discreetly behind your front teeth.

We fit it, show you how to wear and care for it, and explain the schedule — usually more often at first, then mainly at night long-term. We'll check that your teeth stay put at follow-up visits.

Who it's for

A retainer is for anyone in Jaipur who's just finished braces or clear aligners and wants to keep their results, as well as anyone whose old retainer is lost or broken and whose teeth are beginning to shift. A retainer is the simple step that protects the time and cost you invested in straightening.

Aftercare tips

  • Wear your retainer exactly as instructed — usually full-time at first, then nights

  • Clean a removable retainer daily and never use hot water (it warps it)

  • Store it in its case, not loose or wrapped in a napkin (easy to lose or throw away)

  • With a fixed retainer, clean carefully around the wire and floss as we show you

  • If it feels loose, cracks, or goes missing, see us quickly before your teeth shift
