What is a pulpotomy?

A pulpotomy treats a baby tooth whose decay has reached the nerve, but only in the top part of the tooth. The dentist removes just the infected nerve tissue from the crown, keeps the healthy nerve in the roots alive, and seals it with a soothing medicated dressing. It's simpler and quicker than a full milk-tooth root canal, and it relieves your child's pain while keeping the tooth until it falls out on its own. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we do it gently and at your child's pace. Your child's first checkup is free.

What to expect

We gently examine your child's tooth and take a small X-ray to see how deep the decay goes and whether the roots are healthy. We numb the tooth comfortably — explaining each step in a friendly way — then remove the decay and the infected top portion of the nerve.

We place a medicated dressing over the healthy nerve, fill the tooth, and usually fit a small child-sized crown to protect it. Your child leaves without the toothache, and the tooth stays in place until the adult tooth is ready.

Who it's for

A pulpotomy is for a child in Jaipur with a deep cavity in a baby tooth that's started to reach the nerve — often causing pain with sweets, cold drinks, or eating — while the roots are still healthy. If the infection has spread into the roots, a full milk-tooth root canal (pulpectomy) is needed instead; we'll tell you which.

Aftercare tips

  • Let your child eat soft foods for the rest of the day

  • Watch them until the numbness wears off so they don't bite their cheek or lip

  • Help them brush gently around the treated tooth

  • Limit sugary snacks and drinks to protect their other teeth

  • Keep six-monthly checkups so we can watch the tooth until it falls out
