What are PFM / metal-ceramic crowns?

PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) and DMLS metal-ceramic crowns combine a strong metal base with a natural-looking porcelain outer layer, making them a durable, cost-effective way to rebuild a cracked, worn, or root-treated tooth and restore full chewing. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we use precisely fitted metal-ceramic crowns where strength and value matter most, especially on back teeth. (If you'd prefer a completely metal-free option, ask us about zirconia crowns.) Pricing is transparent with easy EMI options, and you'll get an exact quote at your free consultation.

What to expect

At the first visit we prepare the tooth to make room for the crown and take a digital scan or impression so your crown fits precisely. You'll wear a temporary crown while your custom metal-ceramic crown is made in the lab.

At the second visit we check the fit, colour, and bite, then bond the crown in place. Metal-ceramic crowns are especially good on back teeth where chewing strength matters, and are often placed after a root canal to protect the tooth. If you'd like a metal-free look, we'll also explain zirconia.

Who it's for

A metal-ceramic crown is ideal for anyone in Jaipur with a cracked, broken, or heavily worn tooth — particularly a back tooth — a root-treated tooth that needs protecting, or a large old filling at risk of fracture. It's a strong, long-lasting, good-value choice, and also supports dental bridges.

Aftercare tips

  • Mild sensitivity for a few days after fitting is normal

  • Avoid very hard foods on a new crown until the bite feels settled

  • Brush and floss around the crown — the natural tooth underneath can still decay

  • A thin dark line at the gum can appear over years with metal crowns; tell us if it bothers you (zirconia avoids this)

  • Keep regular checkups so we can monitor the crown and gum
