What is gum flap surgery?

Gum flap surgery (periodontal flap surgery) treats advanced gum disease that deep cleaning alone can't fully reach. The gum is gently lifted back so the dentist can clean deep below the gumline, remove diseased tissue and tartar, and — where needed — repair lost bone, before the gum is secured back snugly. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we use it to save teeth affected by severe gum disease and stop further bone loss. Pricing is transparent with easy EMI options, and you'll get an exact quote at your free consultation.

What to expect

We first assess the depth of your gum pockets and the bone around your teeth, often with a CBCT scan. We numb the area fully, then gently lift the gum back to reach the roots, clean out the deep tartar and diseased tissue, and smooth the root surfaces. Where bone has been lost, we may place a graft to help it rebuild.

The gum is then repositioned snugly and secured with fine stitches. Flap surgery is usually recommended only when non-surgical treatment hasn't been enough — and it's the step that can save teeth from severe gum disease. We'll give you clear aftercare to heal well.

Who it's for

Gum flap surgery is for anyone in Jaipur with advanced gum disease — deep pockets, persistent infection that hasn't resolved with deep cleaning, or loose teeth from gum and bone loss. It's the treatment that can stop the disease and save teeth that are genuinely at risk.

Aftercare tips

  • Mild swelling and tenderness for a few days is normal — use ice packs and prescribed medication

  • Eat soft, cool foods and avoid the surgical area while chewing

  • Don't brush the area directly until we advise; use the rinse we prescribe

  • Avoid smoking, which badly slows gum healing

  • Keep all follow-up and maintenance visits so the result lasts
