What is a deep cleaning (scaling & root planing)?

A deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, goes below the gumline to remove the hardened tartar and bacteria that a routine clean can't reach — treating gum disease, stopping bleeding and bad breath, and helping your gums heal and reattach to the teeth. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we do this gently, numbing the area where needed, and may split it over a couple of visits for comfort. It's the key step that stops gum disease from destroying the bone that holds your teeth. Your first checkup is free.

What to expect

We first measure the pockets around your teeth to see how far the gum disease has spread. Then, numbing the area if needed for comfort, we scale away the hardened tartar from above and below the gumline, and smooth (plane) the root surfaces so your gums can heal and reattach.

To keep it comfortable, deep cleaning is often done one section of the mouth at a time over a couple of visits. We'll review how your gums are healing and set you up with a home-care routine. This is different from a routine polish — it's a treatment for gum disease itself.

Who it's for

Deep cleaning is for anyone in Jaipur with gum disease — bleeding, swollen, or receding gums, deep gum pockets found at a checkup, persistent bad breath, or heavy tartar below the gumline. Having it early stops gum disease progressing to loose teeth and bone loss.

Who can benefit
  • Bleeding, swollen, or receding gums

  • Deep gum pockets found at a checkup

  • Persistent bad breath from gum disease

  • Heavy tartar build-up below the gumline

  • Early-stage gum disease you want to stop progressing

Aftercare tips

  • Mild tenderness and sensitivity for a few days is normal

  • Brush gently and clean between your teeth daily to keep the area healthy

  • Use any prescribed medicated rinse as directed

  • Avoid tobacco, which drives gum disease

  • Keep your maintenance cleanings (often every 3–4 months) so it doesn't return
