What is an apicoectomy?

An apicoectomy (root-end surgery) is a minor procedure to remove persistent infection at the very tip of a tooth's root, used when a standard or repeat root canal hasn't cleared it. The endodontist accesses the root tip through the gum, removes the infected tip and surrounding tissue, and seals the end — saving a tooth that might otherwise be lost. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, our MDS endodontist performs this precisely under magnification. Pricing is transparent with easy EMI options, and you'll get an exact quote at your free consultation.

What to expect

We take a CBCT scan to pinpoint the infection and see the root tip and nearby structures. We numb the area fully, then make a small access through the gum to reach the tip of the root. We remove the infected root tip and the surrounding infected tissue, then seal the end of the root to keep bacteria out.

A few stitches close the gum, and the area heals over the following days. An apicoectomy is usually a last step to save a tooth before considering extraction — and it lets you keep your natural tooth. We'll give you clear aftercare.

Who it's for

An apicoectomy is for anyone in Jaipur with an infection that persists at the root tip after a root canal or re-treatment — often with ongoing tenderness or a gum boil — or a cyst at the root, or a tooth with a post where re-treatment would be risky. It's the way to save the tooth rather than remove it.

Aftercare tips

  • Use ice packs and prescribed medication for mild swelling the first day or two

  • Eat soft, cool foods and avoid the surgical area

  • Don't lift the lip to inspect the stitches — it can disturb healing

  • Use the rinse we prescribe and avoid brushing directly on the site until advised

  • Attend your follow-up so we can check healing and remove stitches
