What are inlays and onlays?

Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations that repair a tooth with more damage than a filling can handle, but not enough to need a full crown — preserving more of your healthy natural tooth. An inlay fits within the tooth's chewing surface; an onlay also covers one or more raised cusps. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we craft them in tooth-coloured ceramic for a strong, natural, long-lasting result. Pricing is transparent with easy EMI options, and you'll get an exact quote at your free consultation.

What to expect

At the first visit we remove the decay or the old, failing filling and clean the tooth, then take a digital scan or impression so your inlay or onlay fits precisely. You'll wear a temporary while it's custom-made in the lab.

At the second visit we check the fit and bite, then bond the ceramic restoration firmly in place. Because it's made outside the mouth and bonded in, it restores strength and shape beautifully — ideal for larger damage on back teeth, while keeping more of your natural tooth than a crown would.

Who it's for

An inlay or onlay is ideal for anyone in Jaipur with a tooth too damaged for a simple filling but not damaged enough to need a full crown — a large cavity, a failing big filling, or a worn or mildly cracked chewing surface, especially on a back tooth that needs its strength restored.

Who can benefit
  • A cavity or old filling too large for a simple filling

  • A worn or mildly cracked chewing surface

  • Wanting to keep more natural tooth than a crown removes

  • A back tooth that needs its strength restored

  • Replacing a failing large metal filling

Aftercare tips

  • Mild sensitivity for a few days after fitting is normal

  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods on a new inlay/onlay until the bite settles

  • Brush and floss normally — the tooth around it can still decay

  • If the bite feels high or uneven, call us for a quick adjustment
Keep regular checkups so we can monitor it
