What is a habit-breaking appliance?

A habit-breaking appliance is a small, custom device that gently helps a child stop a persistent oral habit — most often thumb- or finger-sucking, or tongue-thrusting — before it affects how their teeth and jaw develop. Prolonged habits can push the front teeth forward or change the bite, so stopping them at the right age matters. At SmilePath Dental in Mansarovar, Jaipur, we fit comfortable, child-friendly appliances and support your child kindly through the process. Your child's first checkup is free.

What to expect

We first look at the habit and whether it's started to affect your child's front teeth or bite, and talk with you about the right timing and a gentle approach. We take an impression or scan and fit a small, comfortable appliance — usually fixed behind the teeth — that acts as a quiet reminder, making the habit less satisfying so your child naturally stops.

We review progress at follow-up visits and remove the appliance once the habit has stopped. Throughout, we keep it positive and encouraging — never something that feels like a punishment.

Who it's for

A habit-breaking appliance helps children in Jaipur who are still thumb- or finger-sucking past around age 4–5, or who tongue-thrust, especially once the habit starts to push the front teeth forward or open up the bite. It's the gentle way to stop a habit that hasn't stopped on its own.
